General Rules

Role-Play
This is a role-playing server there for everything in game should be kept in character and all dialogue should be in character. If for any reason you can’t use a tell or party chat for something that must be said OOC then please use (( before what is said.

Have Fun
The purpose of this persistent world is for the players and the staff to have fun. This does not mean however that your fun should ruin other people’s fun. Use common sense when gaming. We are all here, admins and players alike, to enjoy Wyvern Coast and all it has to offer.

Respect
Have Respect for your fellow players and the staff. As an online community it can be difficult some times to remember that there is a person behind anything that is written, so have respect for one another when you post on the forums and when in game.

Hacking
Hacking the forums, the server, or other player’s accounts will not be tolerated and anyone doing so will not only be banned, but will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Sexual Harassment
Sexual or other types of harassment will not be tolerated on the server or on these forums. Those caught doing so will be banned.

Vulgar Role-Play
Role-Play involving rape or molestation has no place on this forum or server. Anyone who engages in such rp will be banned.

Vulgar Language
Keep it out of the forums and out of game. There is some foul language that is suited well for a fantasy setting, however most modern day foul language is not and has no place on the forums or server.

The Catch-All-Rule
Basically this rule is a safety net that declares that if we in the staff find something wrong with how you conduct yourself while visiting the forums or playing on the server that isn’t mentioned in the rules section or else where on the forums that we have every right to warn you and or punish you. This rule isn’t here to be used for anything and everything, but is here just in case we missed something important which will then be added to the rules as an update so that it doesn’t happen again.

Forum Rules

Spamming
“Posting useless crap on forums and PMs over and over.”

Do not spam the forums or private messages. Those doing so will be warned and if it continues the person will be banned.

Flaming
“An online argument that becomes nasty or derisive, where insulting a party to the discussion takes precedence over the objective merits of one side or another.”

This goes back to having respect for one another. Do not start fights on the forums or attempt to start fights while feigning innocence with post geared towards starting fights. Offenders will be warned and later banned if they continue.

Real life Religion, Race, and Politics
These things have no business on the server or on the forums. Any topics, threads, or posts that bring these up will be deleted and the offender will get a warning for the first time and banned later if it continues. I can not stress enough how these subjects have no place here, so do not bring them up.

Forum Signature/Avatar
Do not put animations, pornographic, illegal, vulgar, or hate material in your signature. Also do not make your signature overly long as that can be very annoying for many people. The same applies to the avatar as well in that it shouldn’t be anything inappropriate.

In general anything deemed harmful or unfit for these forums will be removed by the staff and the person warned once and afterwards banned

Server Rules

Exploiting
“A person who exploits an unfair advantage, typically in an online game, using an error in the game.”

Basically when in game if you take advantage of a bug or known flaw in the game or the module it’s exploiting. Do not do this because you will be out right banned for exploiting the system and or game.

Griefing
“In online gaming where one repeatedly kills the same individual or individuals over and over again, or camping their corpse to prevent them from retrieving it, or otherwise performing actions in a game to prevent the player from enjoying the game.”

Don’t do it. I have no sympathy for and have no problem banning people for griefing.

Muling
“The process by which an experienced player or character of an online game gives items or money to a new player/character (most commonly a friend or a second character of their own) to help them get started in the virtual environment thus making this new character much better than anyone else, who like him, has just started.”

Basically here is how I see it. If you are trying to give another one of your own characters an item that to me is very wrong. Players that do so will be punished with warning and removal of said item for the first offense and removal of all items and even banning should that same player continue.

As for helping other players (friends) I don’t really consider that muling. I encourage players to share items though use common sense. It’s one thing to help them out with a bit of coin in the beginning, but handing some one a level 18 sword when they are level 1 is certainly not alright. When it comes to this I’m lenient but only to a point. Offenders caught handing over items to characters that should not have such items will be warned and if it continues punished.

Cybering
“The act of cyber sex or any other lewd/perverse gestures such as flirting done over the internet.”

It has no place on a proper role-play server. If you are looking for that type of so called role-play there are actual social servers that you can play on. We on the staff consider this server to be PG-13 at best, so cybering has no place here.

Characters holding hands and things of that nature are perfectly fine and the general rule is that if it is socially acceptable in public then it is probably fine on the server. It is one thing to give some one a kiss or a hug and something completely different when you are giving detailed descriptions of sexual acts. Those who engage in lewd conduct on the server will be warned and later banned if it continues.

Power Leveling
“Process by where one character is much higher level than another and is used to either kill monsters for the lower level character or to bring it to the point of near death so the lower level character gets full credit. Also where a player dedicates large amounts of playtime to raise levels as quickly as possible, for-going any aspect of role play.”

As a rule, if some one is 10 or more levels higher then you then you should probably find another character to adventure with. It is of course perfectly fine to role-play with any character no matter what level and during certain events it is also fine for players of varying levels beyond the 10 difference to party together. This power leveling rule generally applies to normal adventuring and quests. Players caught power leveling will be warned and may have levels stripped.

As for playing to simply raise you level and become powerful I will say that it is greatly frowned upon. This is a role-playing server after all and if all you do is kill monsters and gather loot to become powerful then this isn’t the server for you. Power leveling to 40th and then deciding to role-play isn’t proper. Extreme offenders will be warned and if they continue other action will be taken.

Cheesing
“Adding over the top or outlandish back story to a character for the purpose of making that character more powerful or unique.”

Characters on Wyvern Coast start off at a low level and are assumed to be from the general area that the module represents. As such we don’t want to see back stories where characters were once great kings or generals from far away lands. This also goes for other odd or unique background such has being the son of the duke of hell or being a half giant. Players with such backgrounds will be asked to change them.

Metagaming
“The act of using outside or previously gained knowledge within a gaming universe for personal gain or advantage.”

Basically don’t do it. Remember that just because you the player know something doesn’t mean your character knows it too. Those caught metagaming will be warned and later punished if it continues.

Camping
“The act of staying in one spot on a map in a video game to gain a tactical advantage over an enemy or group of enemies. Usually done with a “boss” monster to gain good drops or alternatively during PVP engagements to get the upper hand upon a players respawn.”

Camping will not be tolerated. Once you kill a group of monsters or a boss move on. Those caught camping will be warned and should they continue then further actions will be taken and even possibly banning.

Farming
“In video games, it's when you collect a bunch of a certain item or hunting repeatedly the same monsters in order to level yourself up or gain specific items.”

As with camping it is greatly frown upon and not tolerated. Farming will be dealt with in the same way as Camping.

Leap Frogging
“The act of jumping ahead of another player or party while they are engaged in a battle to get to a boss, etc., before they can.”

Basically if you know some one is ahead of you then instead of jumping ahead of them, to get where both groups are going, role-play and perhaps join their party. If neither is possible then turn around and go some place else. Jumping ahead of others is very rude. Offenders will be warned and if they continue they will be punished.

Tells/Shouts/Party Chat
Do not use the shout option as a player. It is reserved for the DMs to use for events and for the staff to announce things to the player base.

Try to keep OOC to a minimum while using party chat as DMs may be running quests.

Do not send tells to dm/admins that are on as players. When on with their player character they are a player and do not wish to be disturbed with tells from players asking for things or trying to kiss ass.

Placables and Other in Game Objects
There may be items and other objects that are breakable, but aren’t meant to be. Use common sense and don’t break things that aren’t meant to be broken.

Appropriate Names
All characters must have name appropriate for a fantasy setting. Do not use nicknames, hyphens, dashes, dots, extra spaces, l33t speak, etc, or overly famous names that can be recognized with ease. It’s one thing to pull a name from an obscure movie like the Ator series and another to name your character Harry Potter, Conan, or Gandalf. When in doubt ask an admin.

No Initial Character Titles
Player characters may not start with titles. These are things like Sir, Dame, Lord, Lady, and so on. Players through in game actions and role-play however may earn titles.

Custom Appearances/Custom Races
Things such as tails, catling heads, dear legs, wings, and so on are not permitted on this sever. Pretending to play a monster such as a lizardman, Rakshasa, and so on is not permitted. Playing children or child characters using the halfling race is also not permitted. There may be custom races for exemplary role-players in the future however much of the focus of this server goes towards the core races and “the freak show” as I call it isn’t welcome. There are plenty of other servers out there that allow players to play anything and everything when it comes to races, but this is not one of those servers.

No Character Remakes
Do not remake a character under the same account, but with a slightly different spelling of the name or use an alternate account to remake that same character. To me this is a form of power gaming because the over all goal tends to be rebuilding the character for power while attempting to maintain the rp that has been established.

Voice Sets Spamming
Don’t spam your characters voice set in game. It’s annoying to everyone no matter how funny you think it might be.

Forced RP (Power Role-Playing)
Players are not obligated to respond to forced role-play from skills (bluff, intimidate, etc). It will be up to the player if such skills work on them and what effect those have on their character. Just because you attempt to intimidate some one doesn’t mean they will act fearful, but they may in fact become hostile.

Note: These skills are still very useful for npcs and during dms events.

Multi-boxing
"A single player using several characters simultaneously by running multiple separate machines to run the game or by running multiple separate instances of the game."

This to me goes against the spirit of the game and in my opinion is cheating. Players should only be playing one character at a time. This is how the game was designed, how it is intended to be played, and is fair to all players. Those suspected of multi-boxing will be diligently investigated and those caught will be out right banned no questions asked or chance for appeal.

In Conclusion

The rules are broken down into three sections here based on where the have the most relevance while other rules have their own threads and topics under the rules section. This doesn’t not mean however that server rules don’t apply to the forum, all rules apply every where when it comes to Wyvern Coast. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse for breaking them and lack of common sense is no excuse for ignorance.

Now the over all the goal is for everyone one to have fun, enjoy the module, and to contribute to the atmosphere of world through their characters and role-play. When in doubt about something just ask and use common sense when playing here. Odds are that if you think something is wrong then you probably shouldn’t be doing it on this server or on the forums.

Thank you and I hope you enjoy your time on Wyvern Coast.
